SyncPlay

Two browsers, one film, the same second — and your voices over it. Play, pause and seek in one window happen in the other; talking ducks the film rather than shouting over it.

Download the extension
Chrome, Edge or Opera. Both of you need it.

Installing it

  1. Unzip it. Chrome loads a folder, not an archive.
  2. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode, top right.
  3. Click Load unpacked and pick the unzipped extension folder.
  4. Click the SyncPlay icon in the toolbar. Nothing to fill in — it already knows which server to use.

Chrome will keep a “developer mode extensions” notice in the corner while it is installed this way. It is Chrome talking about how the extension was loaded, not about the extension.

Using it

  1. Both open the same film. One clicks Create a room and reads the six characters out; the other types them in and joins.
  2. Start together when you are both ready — it counts you in and starts both players on the same frame.
  3. Voice chat if you want to talk. Chrome asks for the microphone once, in its own tab.

What goes where

Your voices go straight from one browser to the other — this server only carries the introductions, the room code, and the play/pause traffic. It never sees the film, and there is nothing to log in to.
